Off to the Sun
We'd heard that Gruff and Guto were off to DJ somewhere in Mexico and Columbia...but we know nothing more. Except that it's cold and snowy here, and the North American tour is done. Thanks to the band, and thanks to all of you that wrote and called and said lovely things about superfurrylogic.com.
No Second Single
Word from friends that have spoken with the band is that there will be no second single from Love Kraft. Your Yank webmaster thought Frequency would have been a brilliant choice, but there you go.
Sad News
From a post to the Ochre Records discussion list, by Alan Holmes of Central Slate:
"Some very sad news I'm afraid ~ Oz Wright, better known by his stage name
Rheinallt H Rowlands was tragically killed just before Christmas. He was walking home after a gig by his old friend Euros Childs in Bangor in the early hours of December 23rd when he was hit by a drunken driver. As well as releasing three albums under his Rheinallt persona, he was also a member of The Serpents and guested on occasions with Gorky's Zygotic Mynci,
Ectogram and most recently, Faust. Having retired Rheinallt H Rowlands four years ago with a final gig at Ochre 7, Oz was currently working on a new musical project with his old collaborator Dewi Evans. He was a very popular and loved figure on the Welsh scene and will be greatly missed."
Boxing Day
Happy Boxing Day everyone! Your webmaster is beyond thrilled to report that two boxes showed up very unexpectedly, containing a surprise brand new computer ~ a gift from two most fantastically wonderful people. So look for more to come here in the coming months. Your ideas and suggestions for superfurrylogic.com are always welcome. Also look for that compilation album we hope to put together of Furry fans' bands. And some folks are floating the idea of a fan gathering to celebrate 10 years of Fuzzy Logic, possibly in Cardiff, perhaps around October. Joy, peace and love.

Pressed Leaves
SFA talked to Harp Magazine and Sentimentalist. More press in the Providence Phoenix. Photos from the Toronto show are on on Dilvalicious, and Gwacamowa has photos from the Pacific Northwest.
Up in Boston, the show didn't get the best reception from the Daily Free Press or The Harvard Crimson. The NYC show also got a lackluster review on Pitchfork and another one from Daily Tarheel in North Carolina. Ouch. The show in Lawrence Kansas got a great review.
Bill Pearis interviewed Guto about his favorite foods in Sound Bites. He also wrote a Sound Bites review of the show. Information Leafblower has word from the tour, and photos from the hot tub backstage at Norva. Don't miss some more great photos from Coolfer and Dark Shapes Prowl. Prowl through many more photos by using Flickr clusters (er yeah...!)
Daf spoke to the University of Calgary Guantlet and Straight.com, Gruff to the Chicago Tribune and Twin Cities Pulse, and Bunf to The Daily Texan. The band also spoke with Canada's Chart Attack about turning down millions for a Coca-Cola ad. There's a good article with quotes from Gruff in LA Weekly and one in Digital City Washington.
Love Kraft is reviewed in the Houston Chronicle, Filter, Paste Magazine and Malaysia Star. See the article on tour opener Caribou in Soul Shine.
There's write ups in the Dallas Observer, Houston Chronicle and The Pitch from Kansas City. The Chicago show is mentioned in Daily Southtown. West Coast press includes the Portland Mercury, Portland Tribune, The Stanger from Seattle, Orange County Weekly, See our Press and press : reviews for nine years of Furry article links.
You can vote for Love Kraft in The Pop Factory Music Awards, held in Cardiff in December. The Brixton Academy has posted some photos from the show earlier this year. There's an article on Welsh music in the Western Mail and Reuters. A new movie from director Marc Evans, Dal:Yma/Nawr premieres on channel S4C, see icWales. And, Dan from Caribou is misidentified as Dick Manitoba, the musician that caused the name change in this SF Station listing.
Your webmaster is home from three east coast shows ~ NYC, DC and Philly ~ oh we wish there'd been more! ~ happy but whistful. Sorry for any funky formatting while we were away. {Get us a laptop, kids, and we could do this up right.} Always check the List and Cosmic Trigger for late-breaking news. Hellos to all the lovely people I met and saw again!
Boobytrap Christmas
From Boobytrap Records:
"Boobytrap love Christmas. More to the point, Boobytap love Christmas songs. So, we've compiled an album of Christmas themed songs, called Ho! Ho! Ho!. All the songs are in Welsh or instrumental, and feature a lot of very fine musicians. There's hip hop, mash up, acoustic, rock, electronic, dub, traditional and downbeat; you dont need sherry and mince pies to enjoy this album. A varied selection of xmas themed tunes, to be enjoyed for several Xmas's-s-s' to come, it will be available by emailing Boobytrap, or from the
www.sebon.co.uk shop, and from a selection of music shops across Wales, from the beginning of December."

Euros Childs
From Wichita Recordings:
"Euros Childs, frontman of much loved Welsh psych-folk pop quartet Gorky's Zygotic Mynci since his early teens, is set to release his first solo album Chops in February 2006.
Recorded at the legendary Anglesey studios of Gorwell Owen (GZM, Super Furry Animals etc), the album is now mastered and is set for release in February 2006. We love this record and know that you will too! Across the album's 14 tracks, Euros and his friends and family (including his sister Megan and one time GZM guitarist, John Laurence) span a wealth of styles, with Euros truly making each one his own.
"I didn't want it to be some heavy, introspective thing", says Childs, "That would have been a bit boring for me, let alone everyone else". Instead, enthused by the idea of making a whole record on his own, Euros decided to get "as close as I could to party music". The result, a deliciously meaty thirty-three minute feast called Chops, is anything but boring. In fact, from the terrifying Vangelis-meets-Black-Lace disco blowout of Donkey Island, to the exquisite closing eight minute techno/folk crossover landmark First Time I Saw You, this record packs more musical ideas into its compact running time than most people manage in their entire career.
The aforementioned Donkey Island will be released as a single 28 November. The inspiration behind the song? "I was on holiday once" Euros remembers, "I can't remember if it was in Turkey or Greece, but a bloke was selling trips to 'donkey island', and I envisaged someone being shipwrecked and having to adapt".
Following their debut live appearance at this year's Green Man Festival, Euros and his band play the following dates:
28 November : Betws y Coed ~ Glanaber Hotel (no number)

Tour Talk
Cian spoke to EDP24 and Norwich Evening News about Love Kraft and the September tour. Isle of Wight County Press has a photo from BESTIVAL and will have more soon. The Independent write:
"[...]Super Furry Animals were utterly dominant. Grounded in both dance and rock, the Welsh band's mix of pastoral whimsy and starry-eyed space-rock was a perfect finale. They have never sounded as warm as on their new album, Love Kraft, several numbers from which featured in a varied set that took in folk-pop, blazing guitar solos and, to finish, rampaging techno."
They loved the show in Norwich, see EDP24 again. Manchester Online has a good review. The Guardian Observer were not as pleased.

SFA are featured in the Cymru edition of The Big Issue (August 8-14 2005, no.471). Celeste writes:
The interview is short but very funny and very interesting. In the article the band talk about the album, Live 8, and Keane! In fact the lead-in on the cover reads: 'On alien invasions, Cardiff sex shops and turning down millions from the world's biggest companies'.

Some of the many musicians that visit here may be interested in the charity compilation discussed on Tripwire. Proceeds from downloads and purchases from Joe Pernice during September will go to the Red Cross. Donations through New West Records to the American Red Cross will get you a thank you gift. If you can spare things, not cash, look into coffeecup.com. I went to New Orleans when I was 17, and had hoped to go in October. I carry that trip with me always...the jazz, the food, the people. Much love to our readers in the Gulf states and everywhere.

15 August : Lazer Beam
Speaking to Billy Sloan of the Sunday Mail, Gruff said of single Lazer Beam,
"It's a protest song ~ protesting about other protest songs. I got sick of people moaning about the state of the world. They don't give any answers ~ all they do is moan. Lazer Beam gives salvation. We've got a laser we plan to zap audiences with. It's got an 86 per cent success rate. It will make you feel great and remove all the ills of the world."

We're flying through some kind of crazy underwater 'Tron' city, like the Super Furries' own version of 'The Matrix'. Gruff's face is everywhere as lights and streams and bubbles spiral around at migraine-inducing angles. Then the neon jellyfish show up and it all gets very weird.
15 August : Welsh Rare Beat
Read details on the forthcoming Welsh Rare Beat compilation from Finders Keepers Records, and also listen to some MP3s on the label website. The album will be released on CD and gatefold vinyl on 15 August and is available on pre-order now. From their announcement:
"Andy Votel and Dom Thomas discovered Welsh music by mistake... Gruff Rhys has never been able to escape from it. After years of trying to fill Non-Welsh speaking dancefloors with the sound of slate-mine psychedelia we decided to join forces and compile a one-stop compendium of the best undiscovered psych, prog and folk to trickle out of this previously untapped barrel. Over the past 12 months we have collectively attempted to listen to every Welsh, rare record ever made 'Looking For The Perfect Cymru Beat' on your behalf... and thats why we've called it WELSH - RARE - BEAT.
Update: BBC Wales Music has a feature on the album and a competition to win copies (UK residents only). It's now available through our amazon link, as well as direct from the label. Missed
We heard that Gruff didn't make that DJ set in Manchester. As always, confirm things locally,
and....they might not happen as expected. We try to check all our info, but things change and go wrong.

Fantastic Nights
The Holyhead Mail had a "fantastic night with the Furrys". {For our UK friends that get crushed in the front rows, consider little pub shows in America where we sit down during the slow ones.} The Daily Post spoke with Dafydd and Guto about their "labour of love." The Western Mail finds Welsh Rare Beat with Gruff Rhys, Andy Votel and Dominic Thomas. The Daily Pennsylvanian report the US release date as 23 October. We haven't confirmed that, and hope it's an error. Please.
Speaking to Wales on Sunday SFA reveal that while they are all working on various solo side projects, they will continue with the band. They note age disparity of their audience. Your webmaster notes it's always been wide, with List members ages ranging across over 40 years or more. It now appears that Love Kraft will also be released on SACD. We hope to add ordering information to that and vinyl copies soon.
Amy has posted photos from Gruff's Barbican show on nofixedidentity.

The Cosmic Trigger board is temporarily down, but should be back soon. The message board on the official website superfurry.com was but a blur to us and now is in invisible ink. If you've been subscribed but stopped getting messages, try to resubscribe or reset your bouncing email.

As always, superfurrylogic.com is an independent project of our own creation, which features archives of the news we wrote for the official band website, superfurry.com [00-02]. We are not presently connected. ~ 12 August
From Tokyo
Peter Exton writes:
"Gruff played The Hub English pub in Shibuya last night. He treated an entusiastic crowd to three new songs from Love Kraft : Laser Beam, Zoom and Colonize the Moon. Playing on his 35th birthday, Gruff made use of an accoustic guitar, an old-skool casio key board and an 'electronic bag-pipe player'. He then treated the crowd to an impromptu 45 minute DJ set. He later confirmed that SFA will be visiting Japan in October, playing two gigs in Tokyo and one in Osaka. Gruff now has two hectic days of interviews before returning to Caerdydd to DJ at Clwb Ivor Bach. Pen blwd hapus Gruff!" ~ 21 July, thanks to Peter

Guy has reviewed the Barry gig on the fantastic Welsh bands website, Link2Wales and on Southern Down Records. Doll has added photos, set-lists and reviews from Somerset House and Barry to shesgotspies.co.uk. Xfm write of Oxegen Festival, "the Super Furry Animals arrived onstage in a golf-buggy wearing luminous anoraks. Mad as nine bags of badgers." The Guardian reviewer didn't enjoy the London show, but the Xfm review is glowing. And now Playlouder has a review. One of our favorite places has updated again, go visit graciouslyimpatient.co.uk. More lovely photographs are on Underexposed ~ this time, Gruff at the Barbican. Boobytrap confessess their confession.
