Foxy Music for Charity
 US label Wishing Tree Records releases a charity compilation featuring a contribution from Super Furry Animals, the hard-to-find B-side, Foxy Music. This double album is Volume III in the Amos House Collection. It's out in the US shops on 18 November, and available in the UK on 1 December. The Amos House is a non-profit charity organization in Providence, Rhode Island, dedicated to providing direct support for people in need by offering resources that help them achieve greater stability and self-reliance in their lives. Other rare and exclusive tracks have been donated by: The Aluminum Group, Azure Ray, Califone, Circulatory System, Clairvoyants, Richard Davies, Elf Power, The Good Life, Hayden, Her Space Holiday, James William Hindle, The 'Mericans, Archer Prewitt, Skating Club, Matt Smith, Emily Sparks, Spoon, Wheat and Wilco.  SFA play the TIM Festival on 31 October, at Museu de Arte Moderna in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. Tickets are now available through www.ticketronics.com.br.
Other acts on the bill are The White Stripes, The Rapture, Fellini andWhirlwind Heat. A wide variety of music is offered during the rest of this multi-day festival. Hello Sunshine Single
 The next single off Phantom Power will be Hello Sunshine, released in the UK on 20 October [pushed back from 13 October]. The CD single has B-sides Cowbird and Sanitizzzed. The DVD single features the promo video for Hello Sunshine, plus animated wallpaper for the B-side tracks created by artist Pete Fowler, with tracks in 5.1 surround sound. There is also a 7" picture disc with Cowbird on the flipside. Tracks may be sampled on the phantom-power.com website. Sanitizzed dates from the Rings Around The World sessions.

GZM ~ Sleep/Holiday
 On 25 August, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci release their new album, Sleep Holiday on Sanctuary Records. The album is released in in North America on 7 October. There will also be a UK single, Mow The Lawn out 6 October. The Gorky Dispenser website has additional details about the releases and tour plans, and official website has just been relaunched with extensive information. GZM tour the UK in late September, North America in early October, followed by additional dates in the UK and Ireland. Third Light ~ Movin' On
 Third Light release their debut Movin' On EP, through Hut Recordings on 25 August. The EP, available on 2 track 7" and three track CD, was produced by Cian, under his production guise of Paps, from fellow Welsh band the Super Furry Animals. Based around a creative core of Meilir Gwynedd (vocals / guitar), Osian Gwynedd (keyboards) & Kev Tame (programming), formerly of Big Leaves, the band came together via a shared love of Marc Bolan, Brian Wilson and techno. Based in Cardiff, Third Light took their name from an otherworldly visitation in the dark lanes of Clwyd. They'll play a number of dates around the UK in the autumn. Super Furry Animals have been added to the bill of the V2003 Festival, to be held in Chelmsford and Staffordshire, England. The line-up alternates between the two sites over the weekend, with SFA at Chelmsford on Saturday, 16 August, Staffordshire on Sunday, 17 August. Highlights will be broadcast on ITV. Virgin FM will be broadcasting and webcasting live, but it's not certain if SFA's set will be aired. ~ 10 April, 13 August

21 July : Phantom Power ~ album & DVD
 Phantom Power, the band's sixth album, is the second Super Furry Animals album to be released simultaneously on conventional audio and DVD. Released on 21 July in the UK, Phantom Power was produced by Super Furry Animals. Part of the record was recorded by the band themselves at their own studio in Cardiff as well as at Rockfield and Monnow Valley Studios in Monmouth in 2002 with help from Gorwel Owen and Tony Doogan. The band and Mario Caldato, Jr mixed Phantom Power in January 2003.

 Darren Watkins has art-directed four videos for the Phantom Power DVD. The songs are:
Hello Sunshine, Liberty Belle, Venus & Serena and Piccolo Snare. He writes:
"For the Super Furry Animals videos the vision was to make images that wouldn't distract from the process of listening. Not to be visually overwhelming, more like a subtle massage. ... The most important thing was to try and create and touch emotions, by making images that become a stepping stone to a new image made by the viewer."

Watkins previously contributed visuals for Alternate Route to Vulcan Street on the Rings Around The World DVD. To the Sea
 Hello Sunshine, the lead off track on Phantom Power, opens with a sample from a Wendy and Bonnie song, By The Sea. Their album, Genesis, is a recent rediscovery, created by two young sisters in the Sixties. Of it Gruff says,
"There's a sense of loss in the sample: a sense of longing. I suppose it's a courting ballad with a 'been so down looks like up to me' mentality. It's easy to wallow in misery, it's the most comfortable place to be. But it's always worth trying to get out of it."

22 July : Phantom Power ~ North America ~ album release
North American fans, the Phantom Power CD is released by Beggars/XL just one day later, on 22 July. You can order online through Insound and help support this website. And, get a 15% discount on everything in their shop by using coupon code: hopemusicmedia (good until 31 December). The DVD will be released later, on 9 September, as confirmed by Beggars/XL. (The UK PAL edition will work on many computer-based DVD players, but you will need the NTSC version to play properly on most North American TVs.) There will be a quick two week tour in September, co-headlinging with Grandaddy, with a more extensive outing later in the year. See the listed tour dates. Phantom Power is the number two aired indie/college radio album in the US, behind Radiohead, according to the charts of CMJ.

Release the Hounds! Golden Retriever ~ single out 14 July
Golden Retriever is released Monday, 14 July in the UK. The single is available for only one week on CD, DVD and 7" vinyl (you can order worldwide through our picture links).
