Cover It Up
A few months ago, we talked about an SFA covers album. We're still thinking about the project...it's just so big and overwhelming. If you're interested, stay in touch! Meanwhile, give a listen to the Groovie Ghoulies: Groovie Ghoulies ~ Chupacabras [stream]

Y'all should listen to the Bear. Gruff joined Bright Eyes for his set at Bonnaroo. There's a photo on the Bonnaroo website and mentions in the New York Times and Billboard. And...{whispering} you could download the set through a link from Stereogum if you're so inclined. Jest sayin'.

Gorky's Zygotic Mynci ~ "Rock In Peace"
We're sad to report that Gorky's Zygotic Mynci have announced that they have split. If you haven't explored their work, we can't say enough wonderful things. The remastered GZM albums will be released later this year. And do get the solo albums from Euros Childs and Richard James. There's live tracks you can download on Euros' website, and you can stream tracks from both on myspace.com/euroschilds and myspace.com/richardjamesband. John Lawrence left the band a few years ago. His Infinity Chimps album is available from Ankst Musik. Your webmaster will never forget so many amazing shows over the years.

21 & 25 June : SFA ~ 02 Wireless Festival 2006 ~ Leeds & London On 25 June in Leeds, the 02 Wireless Festival 2006 has Super Furry Animals, The Flaming Lips and The Who on the bill, as we tipped earlier. The FLips also play on Friday, 23 June at the festival's second location in London. Tickets are on sale 24 February.
Update:NME Ticketshop are offering reduced price tickets. Update : No sooner did we post that, then we were told you can get FREE tickets from the festival website for the London show (results have varied with this).
Update: With much dismay, we've heard that the show times put SFA on at the same time as the Flaming Lips. With both groups sharing many of the same fans (including the bands), this makes no sense. We're looking to see if we can organize a cyber petition. Ideas welcome! Update: Please send (nice, polite) letters to: festivals@LiveNation.co.uk
Update:We've now split into two channels, FurryVision will have all SFA, and FurryVision2 will have whatever else you want to see. Or just play them all through the FurryVision Playlist!

Gruff Rhys will take part in a festival devoted to Brazilian music and culture. Tropicalia Remixed will be held on 20 May at the Barbican in London. From their website:
"The seminal 1968 album Tropicalia ou Panis et Circensis launched the careers of many of the stars that we now associate with the Tropicalia movement. With classic songs such as Baby, Batmakumba and Lindoneis the music took Brazil by storm and defined the fresh innovative approach that characterised the Tropicalia movement. This special event features the whole album performed live by a group of superb young Brazilian musicians, hailing from groups such as Nacao Zumbi, Orquestra Imperial and Moreno - Domenico - Kassin+2. Also featured are new arrangements by reclusive genuis arranger/composer Rogerio Duprat, plus special guests from the UK including Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals), The Bees and Sean O'Hagan [High Llamas/Stereolab/SFA orchestrations].

representing Cymru on MTV Canada (use IE and scroll down a bit...took us a while to get it to work).
Vito
We knew Rhodri Viney when he was maybe 15 and joined our SFA List. Now, after being a Teflon Monkey and Broken Leaf (with music out on SFA's Placid Casual label). Rhodri's now in the band Vito, who have a single out now and an album in the works.

We have some unconfirmed tips that SFA will play the Seaport in New York on 2 June, Belgium on 11 August, and the Get Loaded festival in Cardiff on 26 August. More details as we find them.

One Earth : Off
Tickets for the One Earth Concert, which was postponned from the original date of 28 January, have been quietly refunded to purchasers. The assumption is that the concert, which was to feature SFA, The Darkness, The Strokes and other acts, is off for now. The website, oneearthconcert.com is down.
If Everyone Who Heard Them Started A Band
The saying goes that everyone that ever heard the Velvet Underground started a band. It seems like SFA is a band's band. Your webmaster did a little search on musicians who cited the Furries as an influence on MySpace, and was up half the night. We hope to have a compilation of SFA influenced bands out in the coming year, possibly featuring covers, if we get permission. No news yet to share, but keep this website bookmarked, and do join our relentlessly UNOFFICIAL MySpace : Super Furry Animals news. Here's one we liked: MySpace : Computerman and computermanmusic.com, on tour in the UK in May.
Word from The Peth
"Hello Furry fans,
Just a little note to all you curios out there concerning the ' The Peth '.
The recordings have been going well and are sounding good( I'm Modest).
We have recorded 11 songs up to now. There are some, if i do say so myself,
classics!!!!
Here are some working titles-
Let's go fuckin' mental - a definite single ?
Skin up for jesus
The morning after
Shoot on sight
Most of the tracks are almost finished, apart from vocals.
All of us are very excited about the projectand can't wait for everyone to hear
the fruits of our labour. We have also had some great people guesting for us
on the album as well !!!!!
I hope that this is enough to keep you going for now,
Hwyl,
Dic Ben ( The Peth )"
...
"'Skin up for Jesus' is certainly an oldie, penned by Rhys Ifans when he was
a Furry type bloke. Finally it has been recorded about 12 years after it was
first sung in a Cardiff pub by very drunk people.
There was another chant from this period that i also recall :-
"They're super, they're furry, they're animals".
I can only ever recall hearing this one once, at a Furries gig in Dublin!!!!
Daf Drums for James Dean Bradfield
Super Furry Animals drummer Daf Ieuen is recording with Manic Street Preachers'James Dean Bradfield on his forthcoming solo album, your webmaster has learned from an unnamed source in South Wales. Sessions continue for Daf's project, The Peth.~ 12 February

Coming soon to this website...guitar tab for much of SFA's music...stay tuned. If you need some now, follow our Links (which we know need some brushing up soon).
More FurryVision
Our original YouTube : FurryVision channel was getting big, so we've made that just for SFA videos, and added YouTube : FurryVision2 for everything else ~ all sorts of bands from the 50's on. Some of the videos we liked are getting zapped, probably due to copyright issues, so check them out while they're up.
That Space
We changed our MySpace profile to a band listing, to better use the calendar. But on the way, we somehow changed the link. It's now www.myspace.com/superfurryanimalsnews. And if you've got the computing power to watch videos, join our YouTube : FurryVision group. Lots of goodies there, with more on the way!

Always. The only reasons we do this is because we love the Furries and YOU.

Paralympian
The Western Mail reports that, "Multi-Paralympic medallist David Roberts...holds firm to his Welsh roots, choosing to pump himself up with music from the Super Furry Animals. Before annihilating the competition at the Athens Paralympics, the 25-year-old tuned into If You Don't Want Me To Destroy You. Looking for the same success at the Commonwealth Games, Roberts will remain loyal to his music choice in Melbourne."
Monsterism Grows
Get your early Monsterisms while you still can, before the cartoon makes early Pete Fowler works head further into the stratosphere. See Times Online. We're still hoping to do another run of the One-eyed bears (at continued low price), but the high production cost and long time to recoup (took 3 years last go) is holding us back.

Diss
On the way to discussing the Arctic Monkeys phenomena, Time Magazine gives our guys a slap, "Music lovers need only glance at dusty albums by Oasis, Super Furry Animals, the Prodigy and Bloc Party to remind themselves that the Brits routinely mistake mediocrity for greatness." A few years ago, Time Europe Magazine shared a better article with us. ~ 13 February
Summer Lovers Miss Squirms can exclusively reveal (tm) a few Furry plans for the summer, all inexact, wait for details before you pack your sun cream, but to give you an idea: Electric Picnic 1-3 September ~ Ireland, Fuji Rock Festival 28-30 July ~ Japan, Barcelona (Primavera Sound?), and live at Leeds with The Who at Wireless Festival. ~ thanks to Squirms, 14 February

Rough Justice
Word is that the Furries are now signed to Rough Trade in the UK, which released Gruff's solo albums and the last album in some territories, as record people call it. {Good deal, we all say. The entire time SFA were on Sony UK, your webmaster heard from someone there...once, unlike the wonderful people at Beggars XL, Creation, Flydaddy and more.} Update: Eesh, gasp, apparently we were told something in the past that may still be the future. From the Flaming Lips:
